Martin Bailey Day in the Park – An annual “give back” event for the community! A day of fun, games and hotdogs, held annually in June at the Rick Hansen Optimist Park. A first class facility complete with playground and splash park. Sample Poster below.

Essay and Oratorical Contests – Downtowners hold both of these contests each year. Typically we have 30 to 60 students involved in the Essay Contest and up to 180 in the Oratorical Contest. Our club provides $600 in scholarships plus the winners have a chance to go on to the District and a $2500 scholarship and in the case of the Oratorical, if the student wins the World, they receive $22,500 in scholarships.

District and Optimist International – The Downtowners Optimist Club of Regina is an active part of the Alberta, Montana, Saskatchewan and Northern Wyoming District (AMS&NW) of Optimist International.

Downtowners are proud to serve! We have provided leadership in the organization by our members serving as 7 AMS&NW District Governors, 7 International Vice President’s, 1 Member of the International Board of Directors and 2 International Presidents in our history plus too many Lt. Governor’s and Committee Members/Chairs at both the District and International level to list. Our generosity doesn’t end there, we’ve had three members go on to serve on the Board of Directors of the Optimist International Foundation of Canada and it’s new name; the Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation.

Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation – Downtowners support the Foundation both collectively and individually on an annual basis. Club and individual donations exceed $5000 per year; some years much, much more than that.
